What is and What isn't

This is my weekly report of What is and What isn't; where I am the judge and you scratch your head and wonder what's the point.

What is: New medicine bottle tops.

Ever use a syringe to give your kids medicine? Filling up the syringe is always a tricky and messy process...especially when your medicine bottle is nearly empty and you can't get the syringe down far enough to suck up that last important dose. Well, I recently filled a prescription at Primary Children's Hospital pharmacy and when I opened it up I saw this weird plastic lid thingy. I was irritated because I thought the pharmacist had forgotten to remove the safety lid or something and I actually tried to pry it off with a butter knife. Then it dawned on me that this was a new and improved lid for a syringe. It totally rocks and Ray and Ruby can even do it by themselves.

Here is Ray with a demonstration if you haven't seen one yet.

The bottle has a little hole in the top.
You stick the syringe in the hole.

Turn the bottle upside down and fill the syringe to the right number. Be sure to concentrate hard like Ray!

Turn right side up and remove syringe! No spills and so easy! And it gets every last drop.

The new medicine bottle top...it is.

What isn't: Laundry
Everyone who hates laundry say, "I do!!" These pictures were taken on the SAME night. I was cleaning up the house that night and could not believe the piles and piles of laundry that I had been avoiding all week. Check it out.
In the hallway...
in the laundry room...
on the rocking chair...
on my bedroom floor...
...there was even laundry in the shower!!
Go ahead and judge me! I know it's disgusting. But I really really really hate doing laundry. Some of those piles were clean and some were dirty. But anyway you look at it, laundry ISN'T!!!!

What is and what isn't

My weekly report of What is and What isn't; where I am the judge and you scratch your head and wonder what's the point.

What isn't: Acne

This week I am jealous of my own child because she has perfectly clear, soft skin. She is three and her skin is like black satin. It's seriously gorgeous. But when you're three you aren't even grateful for that silky skin. Therefore your childhood skin is exposed to sun and chlorine, and words like "zit" and "pimple" make you and your sister laugh hysterically into each others shiny and bright smug little faces. Then you're in 7th grade Health and the teacher is handing out free Noxzema samples and saying to rub it into your "T-Zone" and you lose interest because you think she's talking about football. But lucky you...miraculously you make it through puberty with nary a break-out, fooling you to believe that Zest and Oil of Olay make a good skin care regiment! But fate is waiting for you and one day you wake up and there on your 32 year old face is...wait for it...acne! It's some kind of post-post-adolescent break out that won't let up no matter how much money you spend on skin care products...that have 8 steps....twice a day. And you wonder if potato chips and chocolate are still the cause of all those little red bumps on your face? Or are they saying now that the cause is stress, or bad genetics, or hormones, or not exercising enough, or slobbery baby kisses? What is causing this? Face, why are you failing me now? Don't you know I'm a grown woman?

Wait a minute. Hold up. Maybe this isn't a case of post-post-adolescent acne.
Maybe this is menopause.

Acne: It ISN'T!!!!!

What is: Family
This week some idiot employee at Jo-Sha Wipes committed her company to put labels on 20,000 wipes for a special client. You read it right people...20,000 and idiot. Upon realizing that Jo-Sha only has two employees and that one of them was half way around the world for his "real" job, so mentioned employee solicited the help of her family to apply the 20,000 labels. Sisters, brothers, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandma, grandpa, and even a boyfriend pitched in to help. It took us 80 man hours but we applied 20,000 labels and shipped 20 boxes of Jo-Sha/Zico Wipes in just a few days.
Not all fathers and mothers are. And even many siblings aren't. Mine certainly haven't always been. But when it comes down to it, when you really need someone, God gave us a family to call on for help. A family who loves you always and anyways and everyways and even though. Thank you so much guys.

Family: Mine is. Is yours?

What is and What isn't

Welcome to my weekly report of What is and What isn't; where I am the judge, and you scratch your head and wonder what's the point.

1. What isn't: Dental Advertisements

I was looking through my local ads for a dentist and kept coming across beautiful ads for family photography. I saw many cute pictures and thought, "Wow! There are some good family photographers in this area."
Double take.
They are all dental ads. What? Why? I guess what the ads are trying to say is, "If you get your cavity filled with us, it will transform your lame family into a smiling, happy family that wears matching clothes while hugging on a beach, or while holding hands running through a green meadow, or while standing in front of a large cluster of mossy rocks." (I can mock because I've taken "those kinds" of matching family photos myself).

I did finally find one ad that sported a giant toothbrush brushing giant teeth which read, "Need a dentist?" Guess which dentist I am going to call? Bottom line: A lame dental ad definitely isn't.

2. What is: Zucchini

This week I made Fried Zucchini and Zucchini Bread. My kids ate all of it, loved it, and I in turn felt like a good home-maker for using a home-grown vegetable and feeding my family something home-made. There was just so much "home" going on it was brilliant. And I am positive my kids knew that by frying up some fresh zucchini what I really was trying to saying was, "I love you." Kids totally understand subtext parenting. Right?

Bottom line: Despite it having an awkward sometimes embarrassing shape, and despite that it may over crowd our gardens, when it's cooked up for dinner, zucchini definitely is.
