Not funny conversation

Ray: Mom, is dad's cologne posionous?

Me: Only if you swallow it. Why???!!

Ray: I did swallow it! I sprayed it in my mouth!

Me: What? Why??

Ray: I saw it on a cartoon (Tom and Jerry) to make your breath smell good!!

I won't give you all the details about the discussion that followed, but in the end he drank a lot of water and felt okay. He also promised not to do anything he sees on cartoons if he's never seen anyone do it before in real life.

This was a somewhat minor incident but it made me pause and reflect on how it could have been worse. A relative lost her little daughter years ago because she was trying to do what she saw on a cartoon. It makes me realize that my children absolutely ARE being influenced by what they see and hear. Since I can't lock them in their rooms until they're grown, I guess for now I will have to rely on prayer and even more hands on parenting.

My kids love Tom and Jerry... I don't.
Your lucky that was all he copied from that show... Tom and Jerry do some pretty crazy things!!!
That will be a fun to remind him of when he grows up. :)

Geez...I guess I better stop letting my kids watch Family Guy :)
KIDDING!!! I don't let them watch that.....but the other stuff, it does influence them. Like you said, can't lock them in their room....just use the opportunities to talk about making good choices. You're a good mom!

HA! Family Guy. Now there's an inappropriate show! Some of it is funny, some of it is just nasty. My kids are no longer allowed to watch Sponge Bob. WAY to much talk of bodily fluids and excretions. GROSS!!!
