Love it or hate it?

Ray started school as a first grader yesterday. Ray was excited. I cried.

He loves going to school all day.
He loves his teacher.
He loves the kids in his class (Semisi is in his class again).
He loves getting to eat school lunch.
He loves that he has two recesses, having his own desk, and being a "big kid".

I hate that school lasts 7 hours.
I hate that another woman gets to see the great things he does all day.
I hate that 18 kids are "teaching" him "stuff" all day.
I hate that he eats school lunch.
I hate that he's growing up so fast.
Okay...I don't really hate school. But common...it's hard to let them go. If I was brave like my sister-in-law I'd homeschool my kids.
Anyone else feel the same?

AB-SO-LUTELY!!!!! If I had more than one child, I would homeschool.... It just wouldn't be fair to an "only"...

Many of your "hates" plus a few others are the very reasons that I am homeschooling now.

I have another year before I have to deal with this, but I have a feeling I will also be sad. BUT, I don't see myself homeschooling either.

1st grade is the hardest. By 3rd grade I'm like kicking them out the door realizing that they benefit from time away from home. I may homeschool someday, but overall it's been great for them. I think homeschooling can be great too. Maybe someday we can do a coop!

What is his collar doing? You didn't pull that thing up did you? :)
