Saturday was a big day for our family. Our beloved hamster, Sweetie, was the grand champion of the PETCO Hamster Derby 2010!
There were 20 hamsters that all competed in races like a pinewood derby. Sweetie was undefeated and beat out every hamster to win the race!
Ray had actually been training Sweetie for about a month by having her run in her hamster ball for 15 minutes every few days and then giving her food and water. It has been really fun to watch him prepare for the big day. There were 20 hamsters that all competed in races like a pinewood derby. Sweetie was undefeated and beat out every hamster to win the race!
And this was the final championship round. Don't let his nervous/shy face fool you...he was so excited he was totally shaking.
And here are the winners! Sweetie Sworn and Ray! The people at PETCO were so awesome and for his prize they gave him a big blue ribbon and a huge box of hamster treats, food, toys, and supplies.
Even though Ray was the official winner with Sweetie, it was a victory for our whole family because we all love and care for Sweetie and we were all proud that she ran her little hamster heart out!

That is just about the sweetest thing I have EVER seen. A boy and his hamster...
Priceless.

Go Sweetie!! Go Ray!!!
:)
Cute post.
Good job Ray and Sweetie! I've wanted to enter our hamster in the Petco races before, but she just doesn't run in her ball. I guess we just need an awesome trainer like Ray to train her for us so we can win a ribbon too :)
Sweetie is a good name. We had a hamster named Sweetie once. Good job!
What a great adventure! Congrats one and all! Give that hamster a congratulatory squeeze, but not too hard!
Aaaw...My oldest had a hamster champion a few years ago. He was so excited! Now he has a lazy dog more suited to his tween energy level. Congrats to Sweetie.
Go Sweetie! Go Ray, the grand champion trainer! So fun and awesome-who would have guessed we would have such celebrities in the family!
