Our little girl is three! For her birthday we gave her a pretty simple gift...a family. We went to court with her on Wednesday so her adoption is now recognized by the American courts. Her name was legally changed to Ruby Emefa Gulbrandsen Sanchez and she can now get a Birth Certificate and social security number. This also means that she can now be sealed to us which we are doing in December. Here we are at court with the judge.
The day after court was her birthday and here she is opening presents in the morning. She kept asking me, "Mine?" and I'd say yes and she'd smile. It was all very new to her but she loved it.
Later we had a party for her at Grandma's house with all the Hansen cousins. It was her first birthday cake ever....her first time to blow out candles....first expereince with frosting!:) When I saw her darling face after she blew the candles out and we were all clapping, I admit I got a little choked up. She is such a joy and I am so grateful that she made the journey to our family. I am so grateful to be her mother.

So sweet! We could all learn a bit of perspective (and a little gratitude) from Ruby. If only we could treat each experience as if it were a "first". We might appreciate life a bit more.
